Recently, AluHouse, leveraging its advanced modular construction technology, successfully delivered Hong Kong's first concrete MiC rural public toilet--TC L519 Hong Kong Public Toilet Project at Ho Pak Village site (hereinafter referred to as the "Ho Pak Village Public Toilet Project"), marking a significant step forward in the development of public sanitation facilities. The project actively responds to the urgent need for public toilet upgrades and renovations by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, and provides Hong Kong residents with a more convenient and comfortable toilet environment through an efficient and environmentally friendly construction method.

It is reported that some old public toilets in Hong Kong, due to long-term use, are facing potential issues such as ageing facilities, rigid layouts, and substandard hygiene conditions. According to feedback from Hong Kong residents, these public toilets reduce the convenience and comfort of daily travel. Against this backdrop, the upgrading and renovation of public toilets has become an urgent need to enhance urban public service levels and address concerns related to people's livelihoods.

The 2019 Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government Budget indicated that the government would allocate over HK$600 million for the renovation and optimisation of public toilets, demonstrating a firm commitment to improving public sanitation facilities. Among these plans, the government intends to invest HK$460 million by 2025 for the renovation or optimisation of public toilets, carrying out phased refurbishments of approximately 300 public toilets under the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department. The projects will prioritise older toilets, those with high usage, or those located at tourist attractions, systematically enhancing convenience, comfort and hygiene standards through phased facility upgrades, space optimisation and the introduction of smart services.

The Hebei Village Public Toilet Project is constructed by the Architectural Services Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and operated by the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD). AluHouse, in collaboration with China Construction Science & Industry Green Technology Co., Ltd., jointly developed and constructed the project leveraging modular construction technology. The project provides 12 meticulously designed concrete modules, including 23 precast components such as rooftop parapets, skylights, and water tank foundations. The main structure and more than 90% of the plumbing, electrical pipelines, and fine decoration works are completed in the factory.

The 'factory prefabrication + on-site hoisting' approach increases construction efficiency by 30% compared to the traditional cast-in-place method, shortening the overall construction period by one-third. In addition, on-site construction waste is reduced by 95%, noise and dust are reduced by 75%, effectively minimising wet work and overlapping construction on site, thereby improving the project's construction quality and safety.

The successful delivery of the Hebei Village public toilet project has effectively improved the hardware facilities and sanitary conditions, providing citizens with a modern and comfortable restroom environment. The exterior design of the public toilet is also quite ingenious, using bright colours and artistic designs that harmonise with the surrounding environment, creating a pleasant and comfortable atmosphere.

The renovated public toilets are well-equipped and fully functional, featuring modern facilities such as sensor-operated flush systems, washbasins, taps, and hand dryers, effectively enhancing hygiene standards. At the same time, the toilet signage has been designed according to the new 2025 standards of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, providing convenience and comfort for users; the addition of mother-and-baby care stations, toilet cubicles for the elderly, and safety features such as handrails fully demonstrates consideration for special groups.

Looking ahead, AluHouse will continue to uphold the development principles of innovation, environmental protection, and efficiency, continuously enhancing the level and scope of modular construction technology, and actively responding to government initiatives by participating in more public health facility construction projects, contributing to the improvement of urban image and residents' quality of life.
