On 10 July, the unveiling ceremony of the Modular Building Engineering Technology Research Centre, jointly established by Guangdong AluHouse Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "AluHouse") and Guangdong Provincial Construction Science and Design Institute Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Construction Science Institute"), was successfully held at the AluHouse Zhaoqing base.
Mr Eric Kwong, Founder and Chairman of AluHouse, Mr Xu Qigong, Chief Engineer of Guangdong Construction Science and Design Institute, Doctor of Engineering, Professor-level Senior Engineer, Master of Engineering Survey and Design in Guangdong Province, National First-Class Registered Structural Engineer, together with members of both teams, attended the event.

The Modular Construction Technology Research Centre actively responds to the national call to promote industrialised and modular construction, contributing to the high-quality development of the construction industry. The research centre will fully integrate and leverage the strengths of AluHouse and the Construction Science Institute in modular construction (MiC) technology research and development, design optimisation and production processes, jointly exploring innovations and applications in modular construction technology, enhancing the level of construction industrialisation, and optimising design and construction processes.
At the unveiling ceremony, the research centre officially appointed Mr Xu Qigong as its director, responsible for coordinating daily management and technical research directions. Mr Xu Qigong has extensive experience in modular building design and technological research and development. Over his 37-year career, he has worked at the forefront of super high-rise buildings, prefabricated concrete structures, steel structures, and aluminium alloy modular construction projects. He has led or participated in nearly 1,000 engineering projects and received 60 various scientific and technological awards. His appointment will provide strong technical support and strategic guidance for the development of the research centre.
Mr Xu Qigong stated: "Modular construction is an important direction for the future of the construction industry. The research centre will uphold the principle of 'practical experience driving innovation', integrating the strengths of both parties to accelerate breakthroughs in modular construction applied to super high-rise buildings, new material applications, and structural system research and development, providing the industry with more efficient and environmentally friendly solutions." Mr Kuang Chendao emphasised: "AluHouse has been deeply involved in the field of modular construction for many years. This cooperation will fully integrate AluHouse's advantageous resources in MiC technology research and innovation. Using the enterprise platform as a carrier, it will provide the research team with project scenarios, technical data and professional talent support, focusing on empowering MiC products across the entire chain of modular design, mass production, logistics, and rapid hoisting with collaborative innovation."
Under the guidance of AluHouse's advanced product concept, the Modular Construction Research and Development Centre will focus on cutting-edge research in high-rise modular construction systems, new connection node technologies, and intelligent manufacturing. In the future, the centre will adhere to the principle of innovative breakthroughs, remain at the forefront of engineering technology, and pursue development in standardisation, modularisation and intelligentisation, providing robust technical support for the transformation and upgrading of the construction industry in the Greater Bay Area.
