On 14 November, the signing ceremony for the SSN520 light public housing project in Hong Kong was held at the Hong Kong Government Offices. The project is overall managed by the China State Construction Engineering Corporation Green Technology-AluHouse joint venture, responsible for the construction and delivery of prefabricated modular building components for residential use in Xiaolan, Tuen Mun District 54, Chai Wan and Ma On Shan minimal public housing.

Mr Dai Shangcheng, Deputy Secretary of the Hong Kong Housing Bureau, Mr Li Qiaoyan, Director of the Architectural Services Department, and relevant government officials, together with joint venture representatives Mr Wu Hongtao, Party Secretary and Chairman of China State Construction Engineering Corporation, and Mr Kuang Chendao, Founder and Chairman of AluHouse, attended and witnessed the signing.

The SSN520 Public Housing Project (hereinafter referred to as the "SSN520 Project") encompasses four sites located at Siu Lam Lok Arrangement, Cheung Wan Cheung On Street/Cheung Ping Street, Tuen Mun District 54, and Ma On Shan Hang Kwong Street. The project has a total construction area of 251,000 square metres, plans to build 10 high-rise buildings, and includes over 15,000 MiC modules, which upon completion will provide the public with nearly 13,000 independent residential units.

It is worth mentioning that the SSN520 project is ArchSD's first direct tender to MiC suppliers and adopts the NEC (New Engineering Contract) format.

The Light Public Housing Scheme is an innovative housing policy proposed in the 2022 Policy Address by the Chief Executive of Hong Kong. The scheme aims to flexibly utilise government and private land with undefined short-term purposes, adopt standard simple designs and 'prefabricated assembly' construction methods, and expedite the construction of 'Light Public Housing', with the goal of completing approximately 30,000 units by the 2027-28 financial year to quickly respond to the housing needs of citizens.

It is reported that the SSN520 project falls under the second batch of the "Light Public Housing Scheme," aiming to make use of existing resources, alleviate the pressure on public housing waitlists, improve the living conditions of citizens residing in unsuitable environments, and promote sustainable urban development through optimised land use and architectural design.

The successful signing ceremony of the Light Public Housing SS N520 project marks the official commencement of the project's delivery and implementation phase. The China State Construction Engineering Green Technology-AluHouse joint venture will adhere to the principle of "efficient delivery and quality first" and fully devote itself to promoting the project construction.
